Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) is a national reputed agricultural research institute established on 1st October 1970 chiefly to conduct research on all aspects of rice development and production in Bangladesh. BRRI is located at Joydebpur in Gazipur, Dhaka. The Institute is run under the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) operates with 18 research divisions, 3 support service divisions and 8 sections. It has a total of 681 manpower of them 249 are scientists, about one third of the scientists are well-trained with professional degrees such as MS and PhD degrees.
BRRI’s main station is located at Gazipur, and it also has regional stations in Comilla, Hobiganj, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Sonagazi of Feni, Bariasal, Bhanga of Faridpur, Satkhira and Kusthia. The Institute is headed by a Chairman who is an ‘ex officio’.
Bangladesh Rice Research Institute has been achieved a number of national and international awards for its outstanding contribution in the field of agricultural research, particularly in rich research, including Bangabandhu Award, President’s Gold Medal, FAO Bronze Plaque, Independence Day Gold Medal, National Environmental Award, Senadhira Award (IRRI) and more.
