Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM) is the oldest and leading management training institute in Bangladesh. Actually, it was established in 1961 through a project known as "East Pakistan Management Development, Supervisory and Instructor Training Centre". To set up this project, a plan of operation was agreed among the Pakistan Government, the United Nations (UN) and International Labour Organization (ILO) in 1960. Later on, the Centre had to face lots of dimensions.
After the Independence of Bangladesh in 1971, the Center changed to Bangladesh Management Development Centre (BMDC). It had to take the responsibility to build up skilled human resources for the Country. As a result, the Center provided management training to the officials drawn from public, private and NGO sectors. In 1981, BMDC introduced Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management. Later on, it also offers a number of post-graduate diploma courses including Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Management, Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management, and Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science.
Subsequently, Bangladesh Management Development Centre (BMDC) was changed to an institute and named as Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM). Along with former courses, the Institute also offers Executive MBA, Masters in Human Resource Management etc. The key activities of BIM are to provide training, consultancy and conduct research.
Apart from the main branch in Dhaka, BIM has two other campuses in Chittagong and Khulna. Currently, Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM) runs under the Ministry of Industries of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.
