Yunus Centre was established in October 2006 mainly to promote and promulgate the social business philosophy of Professor Yunus. Its former name was ‘Yunus Secretariat.’ In 2008 the name changes to ‘Yunus Centre.’ Professor Yunus and his founded bank, Grameen Bank , jointly received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006. After receiving the Nobel Prize, the ‘Yunus Secretariat’ was changed to 'Younus Centre'. The Centre is located in the Grameen Bank building in Mirpur, Dhaka.
The Yunus Centre’s key activities include:
* Poverty-Free World Campaign:
Yunus Centre is persistently working to promote the UN Millennium Development Goals not only in Bangladesh but also around the world. The Center is also committed to make a poverty free Bangladesh by 2030.
* International Communication and Networking:
Yunus Centre has been working to magnify Professor Yunus' network around the world and expose his ideas and works through social media.
* Social Business:
Yunus Centre acts as a resource centre of social businesses. It assists globally to promote the venture of social businesses.
* Research & Publications:
One of the key activities of this center is to diffuse Professor Yunus’ ideas and philosophy around the world regarding social business and microfinance.
* Academic Programs:
The Centre also assists in the expansion of academic programs centering on social business.
* Museum/Archive/Library:
Yunus Centre accumulates Professor Yunus’ all achievements and records including awards, honors, prizes, degrees, speeches, publications etc to create a museum in future to show the milestones of his life.
