Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) is a leading legal aid and human rights organization in Bangladesh. ASK is a membership-based organization, founded in 1986 by nine members. Currently, ASK consists of 33 members. The Organization is mainly working in Dhaka City and provides free legal services for those people who are deprived from their rights. Through the regular media watch and direct investigations, Ain o Salish Kendra monitors the human rights condition in Bangladesh. The goal of ASK is "to establish the rule of law based on the principles of equality, democracy, human rights, justice and gender equity.”
Since its inception, ASK has developed its aims and activities to enclose legal aid and human rights related inquiry, advocacy, training, documentation, research and media campaigning. Ain o Salish Kendra always works beyond political affiliation. Its ultimate aim is to established real democracy, human rights, justice and equality in the society though the right utilization of laws. ASK has 17 Units which are firmly working to promote and protect human rights in the country. The Organization arranges programs to promote human rights awareness. It also offers advice for victims of human rights violations.
The Organization runs through the support of several donor organizations. ASK’s donor partners are: Oxfam Novib (a Dutch development organization), Embassy of Sweden, Royal Norwegian Embassy, NETZ (Germany), Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation SDC, and Embassy of Denmark. Moreover, its project partner is Save the Children International, a leading independent organization for children.
ASK has an active membership with the following Organizations: Forum-Asia, APWLD, IWRAW-AP, South Asia Forum for Human Rights (SAFHR), and Women Living under Muslim Laws (WLUML).
