Established in 1951, International Organization for Migration (IOM) is an intergovernmental organization working intimately in the field of migration with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental companions. The headquarters of this organization is located in Geneva, Switzerland.
Bangladesh became one of the members of International Organization for Migration (IOM) on 27 November 1990. A Co-operation Agreement was held between IOM and Bangladesh Government on 2nd February in 1998. Subsequently, The South Asian Regional Office of this Organization was established in Dhaka. Thus, the Organization is known as International Organization for Migration (IOM) Dhaka or IOM Dhaka. IOM Dhaka immensely helped Bangladeshis during the Persian Gulf crisis. The organization assists Bangladesh in various ways. International Organization for Migration (IOM) Dhaka conducts lots of research projects in Bangladesh regarding trafficking, migration or migration management. Its hand of assistance still remain at utmost level for Bangladesh.
