Asiatic Society of Bangladesh (ASB) is a non-political and non-profit research organization in Bangladesh. The main building of Asiatic Society of Bangladesh is located at Nimtali in Dhaka. The Organization was established in 1952 by some scholars as a center of learning specifying on Asian studies. Its former name was Asiatic Society of Pakistan, after the independence of Bangladesh, the name changed to Asiatic Society of Bangladesh.
The scholar, who contributed mostly in establishing the Society, is Professor Ahmad Hasan Dani, a Pakistani intellectual, great archaeologist, historian, and linguist. Moreover, Muhammad Shahidullah, ABM Habibullah, Abdul Halim and many others are also vastly contributed in the progress of this Organization.
Since its inception, Asiatic Society of Bangladesh has been taking lots of research projects including, Banglapedia, Encyclopedia of Flora and Fauna, Cultural Survey of Bangladesh, Children’s Banglapedia, Parliamentary Documents and History, and more.
