The Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) is the most prominent National Professional Organization of the Engineers (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Agricultural, Textile, and Computer Engineers) of Bangladesh. The Institution was established in 1948 under the name of “The Institute of Engineers, Pakistan” in the then Pakistan Govt. After the Independence of Bangladesh in 1971, the institution was renamed as The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh.
Since its outset, the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh has been promoting & distributing knowledge, and practicing of engineering & science in the Country. IEB ensures the professional excellence and continuous professional development of the engineers in the country as well. It develops its members’ professional standards through practicing of engineering science and profession. The Institution also helps other engineering universities, institutions and colleges of Bangladesh. Engineers Institution of Bangladesh has been playing a very significant role in disseminating and facilitating scientific and engineering development of the Country. It closely works with many national and international professional bodies having same interest.
IEB offers membership in three categories - Fellowship, Membership and Associate Membership. Currently, it has more than 41,545 engineers (about 30% Fellows, 60% Members, and the rest are Associate Members).
The headquarters of IEB is located in Dhaka, and it has 18 Centers, 31 (thirty-one) Sub-Centers throughout the Country; and also has 10 Overseas Chapters in Qatar, Riyadh, USA, AIT Bangkok, Dubai, Australia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, and Singapore.
