RDRS Bangladesh is a Govt. approved NGO registered under the NGO Affairs Bureau of the Government of Bangladesh. RDRS stands for Rangpur Dinajpur Rural Service. It was established in 1972, immediately after the Liberation War of Bangladesh 1971, to assist the greater Rangpur-Dinajpur region people through relief and rehabilitation program. Since 1997, RDRS Bangladesh has become a national development organization. RDRS is an associate program of Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and Department for World Service (DWS), Geneva.
This multi-sectoral development agency mainly focused on disadvantaged northwest Bangladesh. It provides development opportunities and services to nearly 1,600,000 landless and marginal families in 18 districts of Bangladesh, and co-operatively works with 375 community-based organizations that seeks to empower their grassroots members. RDRS’ programs now cover the following 18 districts of Bangladesh - Dinajpur, Rangpur, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Jamalpur, Bogra, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Naogaon, Natore, Pabna, Chapai Nawabganj, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Habiganj. It has over 3,000 members of whom over 90% are field-based.
RDRS Bangladesh has achieved a number of national and international awards such as European Microfinance Runner-up Award 2006, CITI Group Foundation Award 2006, Worldaware Business Awards 2001, Best Rural Homestead Demonstration Award, Minister’s National Award for Tree Plantation – 1992 (Gold Medal), ACT Alliance Climate Award 2013, Good Practice Award 2012 from UNFPA and GoB for Stop Violence against Women, 8th Citi Micro Entrepreneurship Award 2012 and more.
