Bangladesh Internet Exchange (BDIX) is Bangladesh's first Internet Exchange Point (IXP), providing high-speed, reliable and robust IP traffic exchange facilities mainly to the ISPs, content providers, and mobile operators. BDIX is an initiative of SDNF (Sustainable Development Networking Foundation, Bangladesh). It allows the members to route IP traffic efficiently within Bangladesh so that they can provide reliable and lower-latency Internet access to the customers.
Bangladesh Internet Exchange (BDIX) was founded in 2004 as a non-profit venture of SDNF Bangladesh. BDIX is a registered organization. It received operational license on June 18, 2014 from Bangladesh Telecommunication Regularity Commission (BTRC) to operate as Internet Exchange (IX) in Bangladesh for a term of fifteen (15) years. BDIX is the first organization in the country to be awarded the National Internet Exchange (NIX) licenses to route domestic internet traffic.
In fact, Bangladesh Internet Exchange was born for providing physical interconnection for its members to exchange and route local Internet traffic locally through it. Country’s leading ISPs, content providers, and mobile operators, including – BTCL, Airtel, BRACNet, Banglalion, Qubee, Banglalink, Chittagong Online, Daffodil Online, Proshika, AccessTEL, Link3 Technologies, Grameen CyberNet, ISN, etc. – are members of BDIX.
It is governed by a Trustee Board consists of seven members headed by a Chairman. The current Chairman is Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, a Bangladeshi eminent Civil Engineer, Former Advisor to the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh, and Vice-Chancellor of University of Asia Pacific (UAP).
