Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) is a fully government owned agriculture bank in Bangladesh. BKB was established in 1961 but after the independence of Bangladesh, the Bank was established as Specialize Government Bank in 1973 under the Bangladesh Krishi Bank order 1973 (President's Order No 27 of 1973) to provide credit facilities to the farmers for the development of agriculture sector of Bangladesh.
Apart from agriculture banking, Bangladesh Krishi Bank operates commercial banking as well. The Krishi Bank Bangladesh is directed according to the policies and principles of the Government of Bangladesh. The Bank has 987 branches across the country (except Rajshahi Division because, for this Division has another bank named Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank or RAKUB). BKB has16 foreign exchange branches deal in foreign exchange transactions. The Managing Director is the Chief Executive of BKB who is directly appointed by the Government. Finally, Bangladesh Krishi Bank is the country’s biggest government owned institution to eradicate poor.
