Founded on 23 January 1986, Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalist (BALID) is the prime organization of the Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists of Bangladesh. Its former name was Bangladesh Association of Young Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalist (BAYLID) proposed by the convener Mr. S. M. Mannan in the first meeting of the convening committee held on 30 January 1986 at Modern Language Institute of Dhaka University. The name ‘BAYLID’ changed to Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalist (BALID) on September 7, 1986.
BALID was established with aim to modernize and improve the status of the library and information profession; talk for the interest of its professionals; build brotherly relationship with its members and other relevant institutions & organizations; and conduct training, research & publication on the issues related to its field.
The Association is run by an executive council, elected by the corporate members of its General Council, consist of 17 members. Dr. Mirza Mohd Rezaul Islam is the Chairman of BALID.
