National Human Rights Commission Bangladesh is the national prime human rights organization, come into being in order to promote, protect and foster the standards human rights in the country. National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Bangladesh constituted under the provisions of the National Human Rights Commission Ordinance 2007 which was re-enacted by the National Human Rights Commission Act, 2009. Apparently, the current NHRC started its journey in June 2010 with seven members – a chairman and six (6) members.
The major functions of this Commission include – investigate and inquire of diverse human rights issues, provide recommendation for human rights related matters, legal aid and human rights advocacy, conduct research and provide training on human rights laws, norms and practices, etc. At present, Prof. Dr. Mizanur Rahman is the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission Bangladesh.
