Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB), also known as Rural Electrification Board (REB), and Rural Electrification Board of Bangladesh, is an ISO 9001:2008 Certified statutory body of Bangladesh Government created in 1977, through REB ordinance LI of 1977 (substituted by Rural Electrification Board Act, 2013), to provide power to rural areas in Bangladesh.
BREB is highly responsible for implementing electrification and its services in countrywide rural areas. To implement its electrification program, the Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS) was created as a wing of BREB. Currently, there are more than 72 Palli Bidyut Samities (Rural Electric Societies) in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board allocates its services to the rural people through PBS.
Since inception, BREB has been involved in promoting economic condition and livelihoods of the rural people by providing them reliable electricity services at affordable price. Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) is headed by a Chairman. The Vision of BREB is “Electricity for all by 2021.”
