Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Minerals Corporation (Petrobangla) is a state-owned prime oil company of Bangladesh. Its previous name was Bangladesh Mineral Oil & Gas Corporation (BMOGC) founded on March 26, 1972 through the Presidential order #27. Later on, the ‘Mineral’ part was separated from BMOGC (it becomes Bangladesh Oil & Gas Corporation or BOGC) and given to a new organization, Bangladesh Mineral Development Corporation (BMEDC). Indeed, the Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Minerals Corporation (BOGMC), short named Petrobangla, was founded in 1985 by blending the two organizations, Bangladesh Oil & Gas Corporation (BOGC) and Bangladesh Mineral Development Corporation (BMEDC).
At present, Petrobangla mainly deals with the products of oil, gas & minerals of Bangladesh. Hence, it operates the following functions as - oil and gas exploration, development & distribution of natural oil and gas resources, and promotion and selling of minerals. In order to explore and advance the country’s oil and gas resources, Petrobangla make agreement with international oil companies. Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Minerals Corporation (Petrobangla) is highly responsible for overall planning, production and distribution of oil, gas & minerals of Bangladesh.
