The Bangladesh National Herbarium (BNH) is the national prime research organization established to survey, recognize, collect and preserve all plant species and materials of the country.
Its previous name was “Botanical Survey of Bangladesh” established in 1970. In July 1975, “Botanical Survey of Bangladesh” was converted to “Bangladesh National Herbarium (BNH)” and ran under the administrative control of Ministry of Agriculture. Since July 1994, Bangladesh National Herbarium (BNH) has been running under the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) of the Government of Bangladesh.
BNH has been playing a very significant role in the study of medicinal plants, study of botany, conservation of biodiversity, collection & preservation of plant samples, and research and development of plants. The Bangladesh National Herbarium (BNH) contains approximately 100,000 (one hundred thousand) plants’ samples in its research catalog.
