Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) is the prime organization in Chittagong, the commercial capital and principal seaport of Bangladesh, working mainly for the development of Chittagong Metropolitan Area (CMA). It was established in 1959 by Bangladesh Government under the provision of the CDA Ordinance 1959.
In 1995, a plan was taken for the development of CMA, named as Chittagong Metropolitan Master Plan, with the help of UNDP & UNCHS which was approved by Bangladesh Government in 1999 and it substituted the 1961 Master Plan. Actually, CDA gives more stress for implementing this Master Plan. The Authority is highly responsible for preparing and implementing the Master Plan for Chittagong city.
Apart from the Master Plan, it also takes different short-term and long-term development programs for the improvement and expansion of Chittagong city. Indeed, CDA is striving for creating a better Chittagong. The former Chairman of Chattogram Development Authority was Mr. Abdus Salam, founder of Well Group and a prominent politician associated with the Bangladesh Awami League. Alhaj Md. Zahirul Alam Dubash is the present Chairman of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA).
