Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation for Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (BIRDEM) is a renowned multidisciplinary hospital in Bangladesh. The Hospital was founded by Professor Muhammad Ibrahim, a great physician and founder of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh. Embodied with 600-bedded, BIRDEM is located at Shahbag, Dhaka. At the very outset of this Hospital, it was planned that BIRDEM will provide facilities in academic and research activities within the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh. However, BIRDEM starts providing services for diabetic patients. Lots of diabetic patients are taking health care services from this Hospital. Currently, each day BIRDEM is manipulating nearly 700 indoor patients and about 3000 outdoor cases. In 1982, the Hospital is nominated as a WHO (World Health Organization) Collaborating Centre on Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders. It is the first of its kind beyond Europe. The BIRDEM General Hospital works as the teaching hospital of Ibrahim Medical College. In addition to it, BIRDEM Academy offers fifteen post graduate courses for the students.
