Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) was founded in 1993. BAB is the preeminent organization of Private Sector Banks in Bangladesh. During its creation there were only nine banks with BAB; currently, more than thirty eight (38) private banks are members of this organization.
Bangladesh Association of Banks is acting as a mouthpiece of private commercial banks (PCBs). It is the advisory service organization of PCBs in Bangladesh. BAB is a common platform of private commercial banks for exchanging of views on diversified issues related to banking arena. Through knowledge sharing and providing views; the organization contributes in policy formulation and issuing guidelines for banking industry in the country. As a leading and registered organization of PCBs, it promotes inter-bank cooperation.
Since 2007, Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) has been conducting research activities, and providing training to the officials of different banks through BAB Research & Training Centre. BAB arranges workshops and seminars on banking related issues. Bangladesh Association of Banks is run by an Executive Committee, headed by a Chairman. Currently, BAB's Chairman is Mr. Md. Nazrul Islam Mazumder, Chairman of EXIM Bank Limited.
