The Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market (BICM) was established on July 24, 2008 as the national institution providing the theoretical and practical education and training, to the capital market participants, on capital market so that their knowledge, skills and competency will be up to the standard level. BICM has been set up on the basis of Public Private Partnership (PPP).
The Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market (BICM) was registered with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms, and incorporated under the Companies Act (Act XVIII) of 1994 as a non-profit company limited by guarantee. The Bangladesh Government has funded to accomplish the institute. BICM's academic activities were inaugurated by the Honorable Finance Minister (Abul Maal Abdul Muhith) on 9th December 2010.
It offers certificate courses, long term course(s) (like Diploma of Capital Markets), training etc regarding the capital market. Today, BICM becomes a leading securities institute in Bangladesh. The Institute is located at BGIC Tower, Topkhana Road, Dhaka.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB), Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), Central Depository Bangladesh Ltd (CDBL), and Finance Department of Dhaka University (DU) and Ministry of Finance of Bangladesh Government etc played a very meaningful role in establishing the Institute.
The mission of this institute is "Endeavour Education Excellence". At present, Professor Dr. M. Khairul Hossain is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market (BICM), and he is also Chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).
