Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) is the only National standard body under the Ministry of Industries, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. BSTI was established in 1985 through the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution Ordinance, 1985 (Ordinance XXXVII of 1985)". Since its establishment, Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution has been involved in developing and maintaining Standards of industrial food and chemical products and services for reliable economic development of the country.
Since 1974, BSTI has been a member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It also has affiliation with International Organization for Legal Metrology (OIML), Codex Alimentarius Commission, International Electrotechnical Commission, Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP), Asian Forum for Information Technology (AFIT), ISO Information Network, and Standing Group for Standardization, Metrology, Testing and Quality.
Bangladesh Standards & Testing Institution (BSTI) has the following wings – Standard Wing, Physical Testing Wing, Chemical Testing Wing, Certification Marks Wing, Metrology Activities Wing and Administration Wing. The Head Office of BSTI is situated in Dhaka, and it has regional offices in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Khulna and Barisal.
