Incorporated on August 20, 2000, Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL) is providing a wide range of services to the Bangladesh Capital Market. CDBL is sponsored by the country’s most of the Nationalized Commercial Banks, Private Commercial Banks, Foreign Banks, Merchant Banks, Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB), Public listed Companies, Insurance Companies and Dhaka & Chittagong Stock Exchanges (DSC & CSC) with the collaboration of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
CDBL provides services through computerized book entry system about settlement and transfer of securities. It records and maintains securities accounts, registering transfer of securities and more. Central Depository Bangladesh Limited covers the settlement of trades on the both DSC and CSC. CDBL also operates Central Depository System (CDS). The live and active operations of the CDS started with the introduction of the Electronic Government Securities Registry (EGSR) which was launched on 20 October 2003. CDBL operates all of its activities through maintaining a Main Data Centre. It has Network connectivity with Depository Participants, Banks, Stock Exchanges, Issuers, and Bangladesh Bank.
Since February 14, 2003, Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL) has been acting as National Numbering Agency for International Securities Identification Number (ISIN) as partner in Bangladesh of Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA) based in Germany. CDBL is a member of Asia-Pacific Central Securities Depository Group (ACG) and an associate member of South Asian Federation of Exchanges (SAFE).
