Bangladesh English Language Teachers Association (BELTA) is a non-profit professional organization representing English Language Teachers community in Bangladesh. BELTA is involved in creating a network of English Teachers and developing the standards of English learning and teaching in Bangladesh and empowering the ELT practitioners from grassroots level.
BELTA was come into being in 1984 under the sponsorship of the Asia Foundation, and more than a decade it was fully a spirited English Language Teachers’ form in the Country. But BELTA was inoperative for several years during the nineties. It was revived again on September 2, 2003, through an initiative taken by a total of twenty seven English Language teachers of various educational institutions of Bangladesh. At present Bangladesh English Language Teachers Association (BELTA) has more than 700 members.
The key activities of Bangladesh English Language Teachers Association (BELTA) are to organize English Teacher Training & Development seminars and workshops; organize conferences on ELT; create links with other Regional Teachers Associations in South Asia, East Asia and UK; publish Newsletter (3 issues annually); publish a Journal annually; support ELT Researchers; develop appropriate ELT materials for use in English teaching and learning and so on.
BELTA has affiliation with: International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language, UK; The Asian Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language, South Korea; Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, US; Japan Association of Language Teachers, Japan; Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers, Pakistan; Nepal English Language Teachers Association, Nepal; Sri Lanka English Language Teachers Association, Sri Lanka; and English Language Teachers Contacts Scheme (ELTeCS).
