Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS), in Bangla Bangladesh Biggan Academy, is the national scientific organization established in 1973 seeks to promote scientific advancement in the Country by conducting research; sharing out scientific knowledge; publishing journals and other scientific things; arranging conference, seminars, workshops etc on various scientific issues; establishing and conserving scientific libraries, laboratories, research institutions, and museums; providing grants, scholarships and fellowships for scientific activities; carrying out programmes on important national scientific issues; formulating the national science and technology policy; and undertaking various scientific activities for national and international importance.
BAS acts as the cohering body of the International Council for Science (ICSU). Bangladesh Academy of Sciences has association with many national and international homogeneous scientific organizations and institutions. Bangladesh Academy of Sciences annually offers awards (Gold Medals and Cash) to the scientists and technologists for the outstanding scientific and technological work, and to find out talented younger and senior scientists in the Country.
