Bangladesh Prodibandi Kallyan Somity (in English Bangladesh Disabled Welfare Society) (BPKS) is a non-profit and non-government organization in the disability field of Bangladesh representing more than 35,000 members. BPKS was established on 25th October 1985, by the initiative of its current Executive Director Md. Abdus Sattar Dulal. It aims to promote and preserve the rights of the persons with disabilities in the country. BPKS endeavors to achieve equal rights & opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Bangladesh Prodibandi Kallyan Somity is registered with the Department of Social Services in 1988 and NGO Affairs Bureau in 1990, Government of Bangladesh. It is the recognized organization of the disabled peoples representing in different national & international bodies. Currently BPKS’ activities scattered in 35 districts and 74 upazilas of the country. It organizes training program, seminar, awareness building program, socio-economic development program etc for the disabled people.
Bangladesh Prodibandi Kallyan Somity (BPKS) is a member of the Disabled People’s International (DPI), Asia Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD), International Abilympic Federation (IAF), Commonwealth Disabled Peoples Forum (CDPF), and International Federation of Hard of Hearing Young People (IFHHYP).
For the outstanding contribution in the disability field, Md. Abdus Sattar Dulal, the current Executive Director of BPKS, received the Asia Pacific Disability Rights Champions Award given by the UN ESCAP.
