Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BKMEA), mostly known as BKMEA, was founded in 1996 as an apex organization representing the knitwear manufacturers and exporters of Bangladesh. During its outset, there were only 200 members in BKMEA; currently more than 1900 members are embodied with this organization. These members represent the largest export earning sector of Bangladesh, and employed more than one million Country’s human resources, most of them are women.
BKMEA works for and look after the interest of the knitwear sector of the Country. The Association has strong tie with many national and international organizations based on common interest. It has close connection with International Apparel Federation (IAF), American Manufacturing Trade Action Coalition (AMTAC), and Global Alliance for Fair Textile Trade (GAFTT).
Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association has signed agreement with China Yunnan Light & Textile Industry Association in June 2005, and Botswana Exporters and Manufacturers Association (BEMA) on 8th October 2009 chiefly to enhance trade and co-operation between the countries.
The Association plays a very vital role with Govt. and other organizations for policy making and formulating strategies regarding the issues of this sector. It protects the members’ rights, promotes & develops the market for this sector, provides training, conducts research, organizes workshop & seminars, publishes newsletters, activities report etc.
BKMEA is run by a Board of Directors consist of 27 members led by a President. The Board of Directors is elected for two years. The President of BKMEA is A.K.M. Salim Osman, MP.
