BRAC Development Institute (BDI) was established in July 2008 as an auxiliary institute of BRAC University. The Institute is dedicated to promote research on various socio-economic issues, provide graduate courses and assemble knowledge addressing the issues of poverty, inequity and social injustice facing the global south countries. The founder-director of the BRAC Development Institute is Syed M Hashemi. The Institute takes a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach, conducts research, disseminate knowledge just to find out fruitful solutions regarding the democracy and governance, economic development, social issues, environmental issues, women's empowerment etc.
The BRAC Development Institute (BDI) offers the following academic programs:
- Masters in Development Management and Practice (MDMP)
- Master of Development Studies (MDS)
- Management of Land Acquisition, Resettlement and Rehabilitation (MLARR), and
- Introductory Course on Microfinance (ten days)
