As an apex body of nursing & midwifery sector, Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC) looks after nursing & midwifery related all issues in Bangladesh. BNMC is a Bangladesh Government's agency under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Council is sole responsible for promotion of nursing education, training, practices, and services in Bangladesh.
Though BNMC's basis was in 1952, after Independence, it formally started journey from the year 1971 (as Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council from East Pakistan Nursing Council) with a view to promoting nursing services in the Country. Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC) offers a number of programs such as - Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery, Diploma in Midwifery Course, etc.
The Nurse/Midwife in Bangladesh has to take registration/recognition from Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC) for approbation of their education/degree (like nursing & midwifery diploma, postgraduate on nursing, etc taken from home and abroad). Without registration from BNMC, the nursing, and midwifery related professions would be prohibited in the Country. Presently, Shuriya Begum is the Registrar of Bangladesh Nursing & Midwifery Council (BNMC).
