ICDDR,B (elaboration as International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh) is an international health research and humanitarian organization located in Mohakhali, Dhaka, Bangladesh. ICDDR, B (also known as Cholera Hospital) was established in 1960 (in the then Pakistan, now Bangladesh). Indeed, ICDDR,B comes out from the Pakistan-SEATO Cholera Research Laboratory, formed in 1960. The Centre is highly specialized in diarrhoeal diseases.
International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR, B) conducts research on child and adolescent health, communicable diseases, control of chronic diseases, HIV/AIDS, pollution, nutrition and food security, nutrition, vaccine sciences etc.; provides training on diarrhoeal diseases, family planning, biostatistics, epidemiology etc for capacity-building in research, public health and clinical medicine; contributes in policy advocacy; and runs programme-based activities by creating links with many NGOs present in Bangladesh and world-leading research centres to develop and share knowledge on critical health issues facing the world today and find out solutions for global lifesaving.
It has nearly 200 scientific workforces; they are scientifically trained and working in ten Centres on key health issues. At present, ICDDR,B is accredited as one of the leading health research institutes in Bangladesh.
