The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is a government mental health institute in Dhaka, Bangladesh. National Institute of Mental Health is located at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. NIMH started functioning since 1981. However, the Institute formally revamped in 2001 at its present location. Currently, National Institute of Mental Health of Bangladesh provides indoor and outdoor psychiatric treatment and mental health related services in the Country.
Moreover, it has been contributing for policy formation in the field of mental health; conducting research; and providing training to the professionals related to its field. At present, National Institute of Mental Health's Director is Dr Avra Das Bhowmik. NIMH possesses a hospital having 200 beds; among them 70% are non-paying bed and 30% are paying bed; 120 bed for male and 80 bed for female patient. The Institute is running under the direction of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Presently, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) offers following five Postgraduate Courses:
* MD (Psychiatry)
* FCPS (Psychiatry)
* MD (Child, Adolescent & Family Psychiatry)
* FCPS (Child & Adolescent Psychiatry)
* MCPS (Psychiatry)
